Do you like whiskey? Do you like cocktails that are ridiculously easy to make and super-refreshing and delicious? Then you have to try a whiskey smash. I think this may be my new favorite thing.

Daiquiri (classic)
Ingredients: 2 oz light Jamaican rum, 1 oz + 1 tsp lemon juice (you’re supposed to use lime, but I never have limes on hand), 1/2 oz simple syrup. Shake with ice and strain into a glass.

Why did it take me so long to make daiquiris? I think it was because whenever I thought of daiquiris, I thought of those bright blue slushies you get at Red Lobster. Those are a total waste of time. But the classic daiquiri is super-duper easy to make, and absolutely delicious. I definitely approve of this drink!

Singapore sling
Ingredients: 1 oz gin, 3/4 oz cherry brandy, 3/4 oz lemon juice. Shake with ice and strain into a highball glass; top with club soda.
Source: Classic Cocktails
You may have noticed that I wasn’t terribly enthusiastic about the recipes I’ve tried with cherry brandy so far. There was a reason for that—I wasn’t using recipes made specifically for cherry brandy! This Singapore sling is more pared down than the classic Singapore sling that was invented at the Raffles Hotel (which seems to use every liquor known to humankind), but it is DELIcious and refreshing. A perfect drink for summer, and I think I would find an excuse to make cherry brandy again for the sole reason of being able to make this cocktail. I definitely recommend this one.
