Martinez, the original martini
Ingredients: 2 oz gin, 3/4 oz sweet vermouth, 1/4 oz triple-sec (you can also use maraschino liqueur or dry vermouth), 1 dash Angostura bitters. Stir with ice and strain into a chilled glass.
The Martinez is often called the original martini. According to legend it was invented by Jerry Thomas and named after Martinez, California. No matter who or where it was invented, it definitely predates the martini and tasted pretty good, honestly! It has a more balanced and nuanced flavor than a typical gin martini. I’d recommend trying it if you tend to think of martinis as tasting like kerosene.
